I Laugh in the Face of Failure

I LAUGH in the face of failure?

Who says that?

Actually: ME. Failure does NOT exist in my world.

So, I bet you think I'm cool, huh?

Yeah, um, not so much.

You see, the problem I really have is that I fear SUCCESS.

HUH??

Yup. You heard me.

I can fail over and over again.  No problem, well, maybe I'll get a little frustrated or something, but so what?  It means I  try again.

BUT SUCCESS??

What does that even mean?

How is it measured?

Maybe that's the problem.  There's no clear-cut way to decide if you're successful or not.

OR MAYBE....

The lack of definition is the answer!!

Oh, yeah, I got it now.

I'll never be successful.

SO!

I'll never stop trying to get better.

And I no longer need to be afraid of success.

Forget the Seatbelt...We're Gonna Need a Five Point Harness

This weekend, my dear friend Sera Rivers embarked on a VERY amazing project.

This week, I found mine. Details to follow, as soon as I confirm and have permission. But I can say it incorporates three of my biggest passions: writing, nursing and helping others.

Who knows where our paths will lead us?

But I have a feeling:      "We're taking over...get used to it."

(Note: I do NOT think of Ke$ha as a role model.  But I LOVE this song!!)

I've Got Work to Do

"I just want to be free, I just want to be me
And I want lots of friends that invite me to their parties

I don't wanna change,
And I don't wanna be ashamed
I'm the spirit of my Hair
It's all the glory that I bare
I am my Hair!"

THIS is my HAIR, but it's not really me.  I have work to do before it can be free.
"I’ve had enough
This is my prayer
That I’ll die living just as free as my hair"

What I Didn't Know

Friendships are always something I've taken very seriously, maybe too seriously.  That's really why I started writing.  I wanted to figure out a few things about me.  What I didn't know, was that my friendships show me most of what I need to learn.  And those who truly understand me are rare.  And that's okay.  So, below, I've included a recent interview.  Via my website, The Aha Moment Tour contacted me, asking if I would participate.  I dragged Sera Rivers along, since, well...she's a friend who GETS me and we were spending the whole week together at a workshop.  Hope you enjoy!  And if you vote on the website, it COULD be made into a commercial!

And if you were wondering...YES!  I did look at her like that when I met her!  :)

I Experience the World Differently....

http://www.stpatricksguild.com
I often wonder how many people ACTUALLY listen to the lyrics of songs. When you love a song, do you ever think about WHY or WHAT it is that makes you REALLY identify with a particular song or artist? I do-ALL the time.

Music is as important to me as books. I'll listen to anything that makes me feel. A lot of my music choices depend directly on my mood. If I need to be pumped up, I love Pop/Dance. If I'm sad or thoughtful-Country's my choice. If I'm mad, you can bet I'll be ripping Heavy Metal. If I'm in between-who knows?  When I belonged to Columbia House (yes, I'm aging myself here)  I used to confuse the HELL out of them with my selections of artists.  And I loved every second of it.

Since I attended The Write Stuff pre-conference, I've been thinking about one concept I've come to accept about myself: I EXPERIENCE THE WORLD DIFFERENTLY.  And that's why I write.  Or is it the other way around:  I'm a writer, therefore my experience of the world is different?  Either way, it really doesn't matter.  I see things others can't.  I know things others don't.  (I wish I learned this like twenty years ago-IT EXPLAINS SO MUCH!)

And my closest friends have helped to reinforce this AND remind me that it's all good. For my birthday, Sera and my beautiful niece made me CDs of songs that relate to ME!  And I'll probably wear them both out by the end of the month.  They're both writers (though my niece hasn't accepted yet that she is!) and see the world in the same magical way I do.

But, really, it was my other writer friend Rebecca Rose that prompted this whole new perspective on music.  While we traveled to Pennsylvania for the Write Stuff, she had me listen to  Blank Sheet of Paper by Tim McGraw.  And it's written from a very unique point of view.

Can you see the scene that's painted?  Can you feel anything?  Or do you hear just another twangy country song?

Maybe this song matters so much to me because I once sat at a blank computer screen.  I was scared.  But I started typing, telling myself no one would ever read it, so it didn't matter.  I went back a thousand times and continued  typing.  I've revised again and again.  The words have changed, but the sentiment is still there.

And now, I have my completed novel.  It's not perfect yet, but I'm getting ready to put it out there when it is.  I'll be terrified, I know.  But I'll do it anyway.

So, if there's something you need to write, just do it.  No one has to read it.  But I'm willing to bet, someday, you'll be ready.  And it will be so worth it.

Sometimes I Forget...But Then I'm Reminded Secret #6

I fantasize. I believe. I wish.

Most of the time these are great qualities, leading me to be optimistic even during the darkest of winters. I can be a pillar of hope for so many people I love. And often my positivity reaches out to strangers.

But sometimes, even I reach the end of my rainbow. And I have yet to find a pot of gold.

I pout. I cry. I say things I shouldn't to people who may not deserve it.

And during these times, I tend to shut down. I forget about the people who appreciate every part of me. I feel alone and lost with no one to show me the way.

Every time, though, there's always someone who appears, lends a hand and helps me back onto my feet.

This post is dedicated to everyone who reminds me of who I am. Thank you....
